History

Our story starts back when Professor Mamdouh Aly Warda, a resident of Alexandria, Egypt graduated in 1970 from the Faculty of Medicine, Tanta University.He was appointed as an assistant lecturer of cardiology from 1973 to 1980 and obtained his doctoral degree in 1981.

Prof. Warda completed a fellowship program (1980-1985) at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston, the United States of America, training in clinical cardiology, echocardiography and cardiac catheterization.

In 1986 he returned to Egypt and served as an Assistant Professor then as a Professor of Cardiology (1991) in Tanta University. In 2001 he was appointed as the Head of the Cardiology Department where he served for 3 years. Throughout his career he trained many generations of cardiologists the art of clinical and echocardiography.

Alhyatt Heart and Vascular Center, Alexandria, Egypt roots were founded in 1985 by Professor. Mamdouh A. Warda. Professor Warda has always been recognized as a pioneer in the field of cardiovascular medicine both nationally and internationally. Having trained at Saint Luke’s, Texas Heart Hospital in the United States of America, Doctor Warda returned to Egypt in1985.After his return from the United States, he introduced the concept of a pure cardiology clinic and introduced echocardiography as a NEW modality at the time to aid in the diagnosis and management of cardiac patients.He established the 1st Echocardiography Lab (1986).

In 1993, Doctor Warda and Mr. Moustafa Elnaggar co-founded Alexandria’s first private practice cardiac catheterization laboratory. His drive to lead the field of cardiovascular care over the span of 30+ years has led to the widespread use of echocardiography and cardiac catheterization throughout Alexandria and beyond.

Under his guidance and supervision; coronary angiography, coronary angioplasty, stent implantations, pacemakers, congenital interventions, mitral valve interventions, peripheral interventions and aortic interventions were all performed in the private sector for the first time in Alexandria, Egypt.’

Once again revolutionizing the field Dr. Warda founded Alhyatt Heart and Vascular Center in 2011 with the Middle Easts’ and Africa’s first Hybrid Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory where many Alexandria cardiac firsts were performed such as Hybrid Mid-CAB procedures and Minimal Invasive Therapies such as TAVI being performed for the first time.

Alhyatt started with 25 employees and is now a 300+ organization equipped with the latest technologies and talented experts in the field across 9 different cardiovascular and thoracic sub-specialties. Having planted the roots and the vision for Alhyatt Dr. Warda passed away in February 2017.

Thanks to his passion and drive, Alhyatt Group continues to be a leading force in the cardiovascular healthcare sector in Egypt and throughout the region, now having grown to include 4 Divisions (cardiac, vascular, surgical and imaging departments) with 15 different cardiovascular subspecialities.
